Polydioxanone or PDS is a colourless, crystalline, biodegradable polymer.
Polydioxanone suture is an absorbable, sterile, surgical suture, and has been found to be non-antigenic, non-pyrogenic, and elicits only minimal tissue reactivity during the absorption process.
Distinctive Characteristics of Polydioxanone Sutures:
- Best suited for use in general surgery, cardiovascular surgery, general, sub cuticular and fascia closure.
- Minimal tissue reaction. Does not support infection.
- Absorbed slowly over a period of 6 to 7 months, thus it provides wound support for longer periods.
- Polydioxanone suture retain approximately 80% of initial Tensile strength after 14 days of surgery.
- Smooth, pliable and minimal memory. Dyed dark blue for easy identification during surgical procedures.
